Japanese calligraphy is also Sho Dô. It mains 'The Way to Write'. It is the manner to write Kanji characters. Calligraphy was the hobby of sensei G. Funakoshi.
In Japan 'Sho' is a form of art, a calligrapher can do a long time to drawn one particular character. It doesn't main that he actually take a long time to draw the character but first have to clair his mind. Than all of the sudden he draws in a few strokes the character.
A kanji character (like the one on the right) is a piece of art on itself. They always are signed by the master and foreseen by a red trading stamp. You can see some examples of a visual artist with a 5th Dan degree of Japanese Calligrphy sensei Sol Michiels at his
website.
